People with combination skin can scrub twice a week as the pores start to clog due to oil release. Similarly, people with oily skin can scrub up to three or maybe even four times a week. That’s because their skin releases more oil, and the dead cells stick to oil and try to clog the pores.
However, scrubbing the face every day might result in causing excess dryness. This will result in the body producing more oils to compensate, and thus, you will end up with more skin problems. Physically scrubbing the face will cause more harm than good.

If you have dry or sensitive skin, you should choose a cream-based scrub. The beads will scrub away the dead cells while the cream will moisturize and nourish the skin. This will prevent your skin from getting dry. One thing to keep in mind is the type of beads used in the cream. Go for an exfoliator that has rounded beads. Sharp beads can cause micro-scratches on the skin, which can lead to acne or whiteheads.
Gel-based exfoliators are suitable for people with both oily skin and combination skin. The gel is not as thick or heavy as the cream and will help in retaining the moisture. The beads serve the same purpose of getting rid of the dead cells and increasing blood circulation. With either variant, try not to put too much pressure when scrubbing. Be gentle and scrub in circular movements over the face and neck.
✅ Pad/ Cloth Exfoliators:
These are similar to the physical variants except that you will have to use the pad to scrub your face and neck. Unless you have skin problems, you can use these exfoliators irrespective of your skin type. These are great to control acne, fine lines, and skin pigmentation. Make sure you follow the instructions to the dot and do not overdo the scrubbing.
Chemical exfoliators do not require scrubbing. They contain lactic, citric, glycolic, and salicylic acid to remove the dead cells on the surface and also get rid of clogged pores by cleaning them. Follow the instructions on the pack and start by using them once or twice a week. People with oily skin can also use chemical exfoliators.

There are different fruit enzyme based exfoliators that are used for having a glowing and radiant skin. ✅ Don’t Limit Scrubbing to Face and Neck:
Exfoliation is essential for the skin, which means you need to scrub all over your body along with your face and neck. You can buy body scrubs in the market or make them at home. Follow the same rule- not more than thrice a week.
You can make face scrubs at home using natural ingredients if you are wary of using store-bought products. For the cream-based variant, use yogurt or fresh cream as a base. For the gel-based variant, use honey. Gram flour is a natural exfoliator, and so is sugar. Try not to use sugar if you have oily skin.
Do a patch test when using a new product. Contact a dermatologist if your skin has a reaction from scrubbing.
