How To Use:
Wear alone or smudge into eyeshadow for a diffused, eye defining look. For a daytime look, apply a thin line to the lid as close to the lash line as possible. For a nighttime glam, extend the line into a flick and smudge out for an easy smoky eye.

My Experience With Barry M Black BWE1 Kohl Pencil Liner (Review):
I don’t know about you, but my eye makeup feels incomplete without a thick layer of bold kohl on my bottom lash line. I’ve been using this kohl pencil for over a year now, and honestly, it’s one of the best kajal or kohl liners I’ve used so far.
In India, we have many affordable kohl liner options compared to the UK. That said, Barry M still holds its ground really well. And did I mention that Barry M makeup products are vegan and 100% cruelty-free? How cool is that! They also come in a variety of shades. I picked up this black one from the Superdrug store.

Product Packaging:
Coming to the packaging, the Barry M kohl pencil has a slim, cylindrical plastic body with a glossy black finish that matches the eyeliner shade. All the important details, such as the product name, shade name, and brand logo, are printed on the pencil. It features a conical tip with a deep, matte black core. A matching glossy black plastic cap protects the tip and helps prevent drying or breakage.
The pencil does not come with a sharpener, but you can easily sharpen it using any regular sharpener you already own.
Product Texture:
The Barry M Bold Waterproof Black Eyeliner Pencil has a smooth, creamy texture with a slight sheen upon application. This is quite typical of gel-in-a-pencil formulas designed for long-wearing, waterproof performance. It’s neither overly glossy nor completely matte. The tip is soft yet sturdy and does not break easily during application.
Product Pigmentation:
The Barry M Bold Black Eye Pencil is intensely pigmented. With just one swipe, it delivers a rich, jet-black color to the lash line 😍.

Product Performance:
I always tightline my eyes with kajals or kohl liners to get that “wake-me-up” look. Since this eyeliner is super creamy, it glides smoothly on my eyelids and lash lines without any tugging or pulling. However, it does transfer from my upper to lower lash lines quite quickly while tightlining.
If you’re going for a smoky or smudged eye look, you need to work fast before it sets. Once it sets, it becomes a little trickier to smudge.
Coming to staying power, it stays put on my eyes for more than 10 hours. I have watery eyes, and that’s why no eyeliner or kohl really lasts on my waterline. I also noticed that by the end of the day, whether it’s summer or winter, the eyeliner starts fading slightly from the corners of my eyes. So, it does need reapplication if I’m spending a lot of time outdoors.
My go-to makeup hack is applying matching eyeshadow powder over my eyeliner, especially on the lower lash line, to set the eye makeup and make it last all day long. I also follow these eye makeup tricks to prevent eyeliner from smudging & fading!
The brand claims this eyeliner is waterproof, and it stays true to that claim to a great extent. During a recent London day-out trip, it was raining heavily. When I came back home around midnight, my eye makeup was completely messed up 😭. The rain washed off the black eyeshadow powder (from the ABH Glam Palette that I used to set the eyeliner), which caused some darkness around my eyes. I initially thought the kohl liner had washed off too, but thankfully, the Barry M eyeliner was still intact and in good condition, with only slight fading around the corners.
My tired brown eyes look dull without eyeliner to be honest. To make them pop, I usually apply liquid eyeliner on my top lash line and kajal or kohl pencil liner heavily on and beneath my lower lash line, especially for special occasions. That said, I don’t usually wear makeup when I’m running errands. I’m perfectly happy with a bare face layered with sunscreen and lip balm, or at most, a soft brown eyeliner on the lower lash line.
I’m truly impressed with its jet-black shade and intense color payoff. With just a few gentle swipes, it makes my eyes look bright, bold, and beautiful ❤️. I’d recommend applying this eyeliner before your foundation routine or keeping a clean q-tip handy in case you notice any black flakes under your eyes. This is one thing I dislike about some pencil eyeliners.
I’m already halfway through this eye pencil, so I need to restock it ASAP. Barry M has also added a brown shade to their collection, and as a colored eyeliner lover, I’ll definitely be picking that up too. It’s easy to sharpen, affordable, simple to use and remove, and convenient to carry in my purse. Honestly, what more could I ask for?
I use my vegan cleansing balm from The Body Shop along with Magnitone cleansing pads to remove my full face makeup, including this eyeliner.

I think 10 hours is good going for staying power for a kohl eyeliner. I would normally wear eyeliner in the evening so wouldn’t need it to last anywhere near that long. It’s good that it appears to be waterproof, that’s normally what I would opt for. Smudge proof is always a bonus when you forget your’re wearing it!
