My Experience With The Body Shop® Camomile sumptuous makeup cleansing butter (review):
This year The Body Shop is celebrating the 10-year anniversary of this best-selling makeup cleansing butter 😍. I have never used cleansing butter before. Hence, I purchased a small pot for trial instead of the full-sized version.
Product Packaging:
The Body Shop® camomile cleansing butter comes in a reusable and recyclable aluminum tin pot. It comes in three sizes – 20ml, 90ml and 100ml. I got the 20ml product when it was on sale. The packaging features beautiful camomile flower photos and all the necessary product-related details (the new packaging has a different design, though!). It is compact in size, so you can easily toss it in your handbag.
Product Texture:
The Body Shop® camomile makeup cleansing butter is transparent in color and has a rich yet lightweight buttery texture. It has a sweet and subtle floral scent to it.
How I use The Body Shop® camomile cleansing butter?
I always use this cleansing butter as my first-step cleanser in my double cleansing routine when I wear makeup. I scoop a tiny amount of this makeup cleansing butter and apply it directly to my dry face. I gently slather it all across my eyes (keep them closed), cheeks, lips, and neck. Then I leave it for a few seconds to get it warm on my skin. After a few seconds, I gently massage my skin in a circular motion and then rinse it with water or wipe it off with a soft cloth. Then I again wash my face with another moisturizing/pollution clearing face wash to remove any further residues. Post double cleansing, I use a soothing face mist, hydrating serum, eye cream, and moisturizer to nourish my skin.

What is The Body Shop® camomile sumptuous cleansing butter used for?
As the name suggests, this camomile makeup cleansing butter is used for removing our makeup gently and effortlessly. Cleansing balms, oils or butter should always be used as a first-step cleanser. However, sometimes, I only use this cleansing butter (no double cleansing) to remove my light makeup/skincare.
Besides, The Body Shop® Camomile Cleansing Butter is true to its claim of removing sunscreens. So even if you don’t wear makeup, you can use this cleansing butter to cleanse the SPF and impurities from your skin.
Does The Body Shop® Camomile Cleansing Butter remove makeup effectively?
YES! It works great as a makeup remover. You need only a tiny amount of this lightweight cleansing butter to remove your makeup. Hence, it will last you long (at least for those who don’t wear makeup frequently).
The brand claims this cleansing butter can help dissolve makeup in under 30 seconds! And it’s so true! Upon application, the butter melts into the skin. And as you massage your face with that melted oil, you’ll notice how efficiently it dissolves those makeup and sunscreen without stripping your skin. Even though the process looks oily and messy initially, fret not! Your skin won’t look greasy or oily post-cleansing.
As a cleanser, it removes the makeup (light or heavy) and impurities quickly, gently, and effortlessly without drying out my skin. I have used this on waterproof mascara, liner, and lipsticks too! And it has always impressed me with its ability to remove stubborn makeup effectively. I haven’t used any other cleansing balms/butters except this one, so I cannot compare it with other cleansers. But, I am pleased with its hydrating and gentle cleansing formula ❤️.
On days when I wear heavy makeup, I always follow the double cleansing method. And post-cleansing, my skin always feels super soft, clean, refreshed, and plumped. I also close my eyes while using this cleansing butter on my lashes & lids. I never experienced any irritation with this product. It is a best-seller for a reason 😍!
Does The Body Shop® Camomile Sumptuous Makeup Cleansing Butter cause acne?
No! Ethylhexyl Palmitate, the first ingredient on the list, is an emollient ester and a replacement for mineral oil. Since it has a comedogenicity rating of 2-4, I was a bit skeptical before using this product on my sensitive and acne-prone skin. Apart from the perfuming agents, no other icky ingredients are present in this cleansing balm. Thankfully, I didn’t experience any allergic reaction or acne issues with it 🙂.

What I dislike about (Cons of) The Body Shop® Camomile Sumptuous Makeup Cleansing Butter
- To take the product out from the pot, you will have to dip your fingers in it. Some may find it bothersome. I hope they provide a spatula with it without changing its current base formula!
- Contains icky parfum and other fragrance agents
- Double cleansing is a must if you wear waterproof makeup. I have to use an ear bud to remove the eyeliner residues from my lower lash line at times, even after washing my face twice! Also, keep your eyes closed while cleansing, else it’ll sting a bit.
