Hi everyone,
I hope all of you had a great summer this year! We made a short trip to Milton Keynes’ most famous park, Willen Lake, this past Saturday. In this post, I am sharing what things to see at this park and what I wore to a day at Willen Lake, Buckinghamshire, UK. If you are planning to take a day trip from London to this place, then keep reading!
How to Get to the Willen Lake, Milton Keynes:
The public park Willen Lake is a renowned tourist attraction in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, owned by The Parks Trust. If you are coming from London or anywhere outside MK, you can reach the park via car, bus, or cycle from the Milton Keynes central train station. We booked a cab to get to the lake from our home (Central MK), and within 10 minutes, we reached the park.
From MK Central Station – by walk it’ll take approximately 50 minutes, by cycle 12-15 minutes, and by car just 10 minutes. For the bus, you need to catch the number 8 bus from Milton Keynes town center to Woolstone Roundabout West.
Willen Lake has two main car parks. They both are chargeable and require you to pay on arrival. Car Park A is located near the Lakeside Pub & Grill, Treetop Extreme, and Premier Inn, and Car Park B is the closest parking for Splash ‘n’ Play, Observation Wheel, Watersports, Boat Hire, Bar & Kitchen. Our cab driver left us near car park A, and from there, we entered the lake park.

Things To See & Do At The Willen Lake, Milton Keynes in 2023:
This family-friendly park, Willen Lake, offers a wide range of activities for kids and adults. Aside from enjoying the scenic lakeside views and picnics, you can do several things at this activity park of Milton Keynes.
Do you like watersports? If so, this place is perfect for you and your family! From kayaking, paddle boarding, sailing to windsurfing and swimming, you can do all of these things at the lake. They also have kids’ clubs packed with kids-specific courses & activities!
Aqua Parcs is an amazing inflatable water park with over 30 obstacles which makes for a great place for all the adventure-seekers. The Splash ’n’ Play at Willen Lake is one of the UK’s outdoor splash parks. You need to book all the tickets in advance, though!
If your kids or you are not a water lover like my husband, no worries. Willen Lake offers off-water activities and attractions, too. Their Treetop Extreme (multi-level high ropes course) or Archery sessions (suitable for ages 8+), fishing, and other activities are super fun and perfect for everyone.
Similar to the London Eye, Milton Keynes has its own 36-metre tall brand new Observation Wheel, ‘WOW MK’ right at the Willen Lake. You can pre-book the tickets (£5 for individuals and £20 for families) or purchase them from the boarding gates on the day of your visit. You can take a ride on the WOW MK to get the stunning panoramic views across the lake and the city 😍.
If you are not in the mood to do any thrilling activity, you can simply ride on a unicorn, dragon, flamingo, or swan-themed pedalos across the lake.
The Watersports Centre has toilets, lockers, and changing room facilities. For refreshing drinks and delicious food, you can visit the Lakeside Pub & Restaurant or the Willen Lake Bar & Kitchen café near the Watersports Centre.
As per the latest news, the Willen On Ice rink will be open from 17th November 2023 until 9th January 2024 at Willen Lake. Are you excited about this new ice-skating place in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire?

What We Did At The Willen Lake, Milton Keynes?
The Parks Trust hosts various events at Willen Lake every once in a while. On the day of our visit, John Scarrott and Sons summer funfair was happening at the lakeside. Hence, we decided to go to the fair first as soon as we entered the lake park.
The funfair had some cool rides for all ages! You can watch this video on my channel to see the funfair attractions. We tried donuts and ice creams from the food stalls at the fair and then headed straight toward the WOW MK Observation Wheel. The white structure looks beautiful, and I believe the views from one of its gondolas are breathtaking, too 😍! I wanted to ride the wheel, but my husband has height and water phobia. So, I will do it next time with my besties.
Since we didn’t want to do any pedal boat or wheel rides at the lake that day, we decided to walk around the lake, take in the stunning landscape views, do chatting and photo sessions 🙂.
We enjoyed watching some cute swans swimming across the lake with their families on one side of the lake and the beautiful unicorn & swan-themed pedalos floating on the other side. The scene reminded me of my 2005 Mussoorie (India) lake trip! My husband’s colleague and his family also joined us later. Their kids had a blast at the lake! I was happy to see them having so much fun in the play area ❤️.
Talk about the scenic beauty! The green water surrounded by nature looks so beautiful! I could spend the whole day simply sitting at the lakeside watching the action on the lake 😍. And when you are with your loving family or friends, the fun gets doubled!

What I Wore To The Willen Lake, Milton Keynes?
For the lake trip, I chose to wear a black pleated skirt with a flowy long-sleeve polka dot printed top. I was not in the mood to wear a pastel-colored outfit that day!
The skirt has lovely golden detailing and thus pairs nicely with my top, bag, and shoes. They all feature black, white, and gold!
I am in love with my cute faux leather mini pearl-studded backpack that I got from Primark in 2019. I can toss all my photography gadgets like a phone, power bank, chargers, DSLR camera, and batteries with a small water bottle and purse in this bag. Don’t get confused by its small shape; it is pretty spacious! It’s been my travel companion for the past few years ❤️.
I kept my short shoulder-length hair loose and side-swept for the day out. I used a pearl-studded hair clip to pin my locks to one side! However, my hairstyle wasn’t ideal for that windy day.
To match my dress code, I wore a pair of black and gold-themed earrings and oversized sunglasses.
Overall, I was happy with my look for the day 🙂.

Yes, definitely! I highly recommend this lake to everyone who likes nature, water sports, and other fun activities. Since Central Milton Keynes is just 30 minutes away from London by train and 1 hr by car, you can easily take a day trip from the capital city with your family.
