After a nice birthday lunch at Namji Xscape restaurant, we headed over to Fred Roche Gardens nearby. I wanted a peaceful spot to take some beautiful photos, and this secluded park was just perfect! Want to know more about the gardens? Keep reading!
Fred Roche Gardens Tour & Review, Central Milton Keynes, UK
Gardens Location:
Hidden away in the heart of Central Milton Keynes, Fred Roche Gardens are tucked in a corner behind Christ the Cornerstone church and The Guildhall. Can you believe it’s only a 5-minute walk from my apartment, but I never visited until this July? Huh!
Fred Roche Gardens were previously known as City Gardens. These gardens were re-named on 9th November 2012 in honour of Fred Roche, General Manager of Milton Keynes Development Corporation (from 1971-1980) by the Mayor of Milton Keynes.

Things to see and do at Fred Roche Gardens:
When we got to the gardens, no one else was there, which was awesome! Haha 😝 ! Since I get social anxiety, posing for photos around people is tough. I’m not great at posing or talking on camera in front of others, so this spacious quiet garden was just what I needed for my birthday outfit photoshoot. Thankfully, my mission was successful 🙂.
Right now, the gardens are in full bloom with a peaceful atmosphere. They really come alive during summer festivals😍! The Fred Roche Foundation hosts various events here, like the Hidden Festival with live music, top DJs and food stalls, plus other fun activities for kids and families. We can enjoy the cool music from home during these festivals, though we miss the vibe. I’m planning to attend the next Hidden concert, so fingers crossed🤞.

The gardens have lawns, formal features, quiet seating areas, and sculptures by the famous Bernard Schottlander. Central Milton Keynes is home to many wonderful sculptures, including this beautiful painted welded steel N-shaped piece by Schottlander 😍.
There’s also a LOOK AGAIN signboard where you can scan a QR code to discover other design heritage locations on this trail. Most are along the roadside, so keep an eye out 😉!
At Fred Roche Gardens, you can read your favorite books, have a picnic, or just enjoy the serenity 🙂.
Even though I studied Botany and Biotech in college (with a major in Zoology), I still don’t know the names of half the flowers or plants! But that doesn’t stop me from visiting such pretty gardens. I love exploring national parks, museums, and gardens ❤️.
I did some research on the beautiful flowers here (especially purple ones) and found they’re common English Lavenders. They didn’t smell like typical lavenders, though! But who cares, my photos turned out great with these flowers 😀!

I wandered around the gardens while my personal unpaid photographer (a.k.a. my husband) played games on his phone. He was tired from walking and took the chance to relax in this beautiful spot 🤣. You can watch the full garden tour video on my channel now.
Overall, I loved visiting Fred Roche Gardens! I wouldn’t call it a must-visit tourist attraction in Milton Keynes, but if you’re new to the city and looking for a nice, peaceful garden near the church to enjoy with your family or alone, or if you want to take photos with flowers like me, this place is perfect, especially in summer 😍👌🏻!

This looks like a beautiful spot to explore. I always love checking out flowers. I love your photos.
This garden reminds me of the botanical gardens in our area. It used to be free to enter but they changed that several years ago. It now costs money to go into see the beautiful flowers. I don’t know if they allow photography anymore either especially professionally.
What a gorgeous garden to visit! I would love to see this in person. I had not heard of this garden before, and it is nice to have some spots to check out.
