My Experience with The Body Shop Vitamin C Glow Revealing Tonic (Review)
(Skin Type: Combination (leans towards dry mostly), sensitive, dehydrated and acne-prone)
I already purchased a few beauty products from the brand during the Christmas sale (check this video). However, the team kindly sent me their ‘No Blue Monday’ surprise gift set (which included this newly launched Vitamin C tonic) a couple of weeks ago. I stopped using physical exfoliants long back. Hence, I was excited to try out this chemical exfoliating toner.
Packaging:
The Body Shop Glow Revealing Vitamin C tonic comes in a 150 ml, recyclable, dark green glass bottle secured with an aluminum screw cap. The whole packaging gives off fruity, citrusy vibes, like its peers from the same Vitamin C range. Except for the ingredient list, you can find other product-related details like shelf-life, functions, and manufacture on the bottle!
Texture:
The Body Shop describes that Glow Revealing Vitamin C tonic has a golden-hued water texture. To me, it looks transparent, though! This exfoliating toner has a lovely, refreshing, citrusy fragrance. I like that its scent is subtle and not overpowering!
How I use The Body Shop Glow Revealing Vitamin C tonic?
We must know the purpose behind our toners before applying them to our skin. For best results, it’s advisable to follow the product’s instructions. However, I couldn’t find any ‘direction’ label on the bottle or website. So, I use this glow revealing Vitamin C tonic enriched with AHA & enzymes, just like other exfoliating toners.
After thoroughly cleansing my face and neck with a mild face wash, I gently dry my skin with a paper towel. Then I pour a few drops of this toner onto a soft, recyclable cotton pad (I got mine from the Muji store) and swipe it across my face and neck. Since this is not a hydrating or pH-adjusting toner, I use cotton pads instead of my hands. The pads help the exfoliating effects of such toners. I let it air dry for a few seconds before applying my hydrating serum, eye cream, moisturizer, and sunscreen (during day hours). I use this toner thrice a week!

How it works – Performance Details:
It doesn’t matter how much quantity of this Vitamin C tonic I apply to my combination skin, it gets quickly absorbed by the skin. Since I have never tried any chemical exfoliating toners before, I started with a ‘twice a week’ (less is more) routine.
The purpose behind using The Body Shop chemical (AHA/acid-based) exfoliating toner is to achieve a softer, smoother, brighter, and even skin tone. After using this mild, AHA-based Vitamin C tonic, I agree it is truly a glow-giver! Upon application, it gently exfoliates the skin and imparts a nice, healthy glow. It makes my skin look fresh, smooth, radiant, and completely ready (read better absorption) for the next skincare steps! I also tried this product as a stand-alone cleanser (lazy me) once, and the toner-soaked pad effortlessly lifted the dirt and impurities off my skin.
Initially, I was skeptical about this Vitamin C toner and assumed it would dry out my skin severely or cause breakouts. Thankfully, with me, nothing happened as such to date! My sensitive skin responded very well to The Body Shop Vitamin C tonic and did not experience any irritation or tingling. It is so gentle and lightweight that you can use it daily with your AM/PM skincare routine. However, I have incorporated this exfoliating toner into my night beauty routine and use it only thrice a week.
The Body Shop Glow Revealing Vitamin C tonic is rich in soothing, skin-brightening, collagen-boosting ingredients and anti-oxidants. We all know that to get glowing skin, we must focus on our skin’s health with essential nutrients, and Vitamin C tops the chart. In this product, we have 3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid (a very stable form of Vitamin C), natural origin corn-derived Lactic Acid (the second most researched AHA after glycolic acid), Decyl Glucoside (a vegetable origin (coconut or palm kernel oil and glucose) cleansing agent), Camu Camu berries fruit extract, and Papaya fruit enzyme. The combination is great, but if you are allergic to any of these ingredients, please skip it. You can read this post to know why enzymes are beneficial for the skin.
Anyway, despite containing Glycerine, the moisturizing agent as the second ingredient, it doesn’t feel hydrating on my skin. I admit, my skin doesn’t feel tight/overly dry after using this toner, but it doesn’t feel nourished either! I have this issue with all my previous Vitamin C products, including its partner ‘Vitamin C moisturizer’ from the same line. For this reason, I prefer using all my hydrating serums and moisturizers with this Vitamin C tonic, especially during these harsh, colder months.
During the summer season, my skin becomes dull, sweaty, and congested. I don’t think it would be an issue that time, though! I’ll update this review again in June/July, so stay tuned. My current skin condition is way better than the 2018-2020 period. Now, I have only a few pimple scars and hyperpigmentation issues, which I believe will go away with its regular usage.
