My Experience With The Body Shop Wake-Up Call Black Liquid Eyeliner (Review):

(Skin Type: Combination – Dry, Dehydrated, Sensitive)

Like I mentioned earlier, my black eyeliners and kajals run out faster than any other makeup products! So, when I came across this vegan eyeliner in The Body Shop’s makeup range, I grabbed it without a second thought. Luckily, there was an ongoing sale at that time, so I got it at a great price. Not that it’s pricey, though! I have used this eyeliner throughout the four seasons in the UK and even during India’s peak summer last year. So, I am totally ready to share my thoughts with you all.

How does it work? Performance details:

This is my first-ever eye make-up product from this brand. I have been using their skin and hair care products for the past 10 years, but this was my first time trying their eyeliner and lip & cheek tint. Oh, I also love their eco-friendly bamboo make-up brushes, highly recommend them 😍!

The Body Shop Wake-up Call Liquid Eyeliner boasts an intensely pigmented, inky black hue, delivering a striking look with a single swipe. Once dry, it settles into a beautiful satin matte finish, offering a sophisticated look that isn’t overly flat. The vegan formula is infused with upcycled coffee powder, coffee oil, and organic aloe vera, staying true to the brand’s love for natural ingredients. Plus, it’s free from harsh chemicals and carbon black, making it a great pick for those with sensitive eyes ❤️.

I suspect I may have received a product from a faulty batch, the applicator top detached from the bottle the moment I opened it, leaving the brush inside! I’ve experienced this with nail polishes before, but never with an eyeliner 😭.

Secondly, the brand claims it has an ultra-fine pointy brush tip, but from my experience, it feels more like a thick, felt-tip nib. I’m no makeup pro, but I’m well-versed with liquid eyeliners and their brush applicators. Had I known it had a hard felt-tip brush, I wouldn’t have purchased it. I find felt nibs difficult to work with, making thin lines and dramatic wings almost impossible for me. But, as always, I found a quick fix 😉!

Applicators | Lakme Absolute Black Eyeliner – The Body Shop Eyeliner – Rimmel London Glameyes Black Eyeliner

Despite the applicator issue, I really like the color and finish of this eyeliner. So, I use either my Lakme Absolute Liner OR Rimmel London liquid eyeliner’s (another favorite liner) ultra-fine brush to apply it!  One can’t simply discard a lovely black eyeliner for such a minor issue, can they? Especially, when you bought it with your own money 🙃!

There is another thing I love about this eyeliner, which is its staying power

Staying Power:

True to its claim, The Body Shop Wake-Up Call Black Eyeliner stays put for more than 12 hours without transferring! I wore it during my UK-to-India flight last summer, and multiple times in India’s peak summer heat. Surprisingly, it didn’t budge at all and lasted perfectly until I washed it off at night ❤️.

However, keep in mind:

  • This eyeliner is not waterproof or smudge-proof.
  • Any accidental rub or water exposure, and it will start coming off!
  • If you have watery eyes (like me), the corners or winged liner may fade toward the end of the day.

On the bright side, the eyeliner gets easily removed by micellar water or vaseline 🙂. I personally love using my cleansing butter to take off all my makeup at the end of the day.

Is The Body Shop Wake-up Call Liquid Eyeliner Worth A Buy?

While staying in India, my cousin tried this eyeliner, and she effortlessly created winged liners, whereas I struggled like a beginner 🤣!

No matter how much I adjust my pressure or technique, I just can’t get the applicator to work for me. If you’re comfortable with felt-tip brushes, you’ll probably have no issues 🙂.

In this photo collage, I used the Wake-Up Call eyeliner brush to create the look. As you can see, the winged part turned out quite messy, courtesy of both the applicator and my not-so-steady hands! It took a lot of effort and time to create this simple eye look 🥺.

Here, I applied the eyeliner using the brush nib of the Rimmel London eyeliner. On the far left, I created a simple, thin line for a casual look, while the right photo showcases a bold, thick liner style. I don’t do dramatic wings anyway, so it’s absolutely okay with me 🤩!

Aside from its brush nib, I don’t have any problem with this eyeliner. With the help of my other applicators, I can easily draw a thin to thickest line on my eyelids. Also, the satiny matte finish of this liner looks great on my deep brown eyes 😍! I use its felt-tip brush solely to refine the little wings.

The packaging states its shelf life is only six months, but I’ve been using it for over a year now 😜, and the formula is still perfect, no dryness issues!

No! I’d love to try other eyeliners from The Body Shop instead.

Conclusion:

To sum up,

The Body Shop Wake-up Call Liquid Eyeliner is a nice, vegan black eyeliner with great pigmentation and staying power. Aside from its brush nib, I like everything about it. Since this was my first time trying The Body Shop’s eyeliners, I can’t compare it with their previous versions 🙂.

If you’re looking for a good cruelty-free, vegan black liquid eyeliner, you might want to give it a try. But since it’s on the pricier side, I’d suggest waiting for a sale

  1. I’ve always wanted to try liquid eyeliner. I’m partial to pencil eyeliner, but I like that this is vegan-friendly and works well on sensitive skin and offers precision control.

  2. I haven’t been to the Body Shop in many years. They have so many great products — I would love to check this out and see what kind of other stuff they have as well.
