Dinner Date at DeRoka Turkish Mediterranean Restaurant, Milton Keynes (Review)

This year, to celebrate both my husband’s 41st birthday (February 13) and Valentine’s Day, we headed to DeRoka Turkish Mediterranean Restaurant in Milton Keynes for a dinner date. If you’re curious to know more about this popular fine dining spot, keep reading.

DeRoka Turkish Mediterranean Restaurant and Cocktail Bar, Milton Keynes (Review)

We usually order takeout from Turkish restaurants, but a fine dining experience is quite enjoyable, which is why we made this decision. My immense love for kebabs and Turkish dramas was also another factor behind choosing this place. In Bengali, there’s a proverb, “Dudher Swad Ghole Metano” which means satisfying the craving for milk with whey or buttermilk. In simple words, when you can’t have exactly what you want, you settle for the next best thing. I don’t know whether I’ll ever be able to visit Türkiye, so I might as well explore these restaurants and relish the flavors now 😄.

How To Get To DeRoka Restaurant:

DeRoka is located in The Hub, Central Milton Keynes. It’s about a 15-minute walk from my place, so locating the restaurant was easy. Convenient, central, and easy to find. If you’re coming from Central Milton Keynes Station, it takes around 10 to 15 minutes on foot and about 4 minutes by car. It’s located right opposite Banana Tree Southeast Asian restaurant.

Full address is:

DeRoka Turkish Mediterranean Restaurant Decor:

The restaurant is housed in a modern glass-walled building in The Hub, with green and pink lighting on its exterior that exudes serious Mediterranean glamour. The space is designed to feel like a high-end private lounge, where every corner offers a sophisticated “wow factor.” I was completely blown away by its Mediterranean charm 😍.

We intentionally skipped the Valentine’s Day rush on February 13 and 14, as well as the weekend crowd, and instead pre-booked our reservation for a later Monday. To be honest, I don’t enjoy eating at crowded places. I prefer quieter dining experiences where you can actually hear yourself think. When we arrived around 8:30 p.m., the manager immediately escorted us to a beautiful window-side table, where we could enjoy unobstructed views of the surroundings.

The multi-story building features floor-to-ceiling windows illuminated with vibrant magenta and emerald green accent lighting on the structural columns and upper ceilings. The entrance is marked by a minimalist black canopy with a white neon "De Roka" script logo. Outdoor features include dark-slatted wooden planters with lush greenery, silver bollard lights, and views of a warm, inviting interior with crystal chandeliers.

DeRoka is quite spacious and features a split-level layout, with an upper mezzanine floor overlooking the main dining area and open kitchen. The mezzanine showcases intricate dark laser-cut screens that offer a contemporary nod to traditional Mediterranean and Middle Eastern architectural motifs. The upper level provides a “see and be seen” vantage point, making it perfect for private parties or a more secluded dining experience. When we arrived, there were only a few customers, so no one was dining on the upper level.

While the staff prepared for our dinner service, I was busy admiring the décor. The restaurant features lush installations of soft pink wisteria, autumnal red foliage, and greenery displays, adding an organic and romantic softness to the structured space. Stunning tiered crystal-and-gold chandeliers cast a warm, sparkling glow across the dining floor. The soothing Turkish ambient music kept my mind pleasantly occupied throughout the evening 🩷.

The double-height space is illuminated by ornate, tiered crystal and gold chandeliers hanging from a dark industrial ceiling. A mezzanine level overlooks the main floor, partially obscured by an intricate dark laser-cut geometric screen. Lush botanical installations, including cascading pink wisteria and a vibrant red maple-style tree, create organic partitions throughout the dining area. In the background, a gold-textured geometric bar front sits beneath a large black awning that marks the open kitchen.

At DeRoka, the marble-topped tables are set with crisp glassware and bold red plates that mirror the deep plum tones of the chairs for a cohesive look. A striking 3D geometric gold façade wraps around the bar and service area, reflecting ambient light and adding a final touch of maximalist flair. With the Mediterranean décor, Turkish music, and the delectable aroma of food, I really felt like I was reliving the best restaurant scenes from romantic Turkish dramas 🥰.

DeRoka Turkish Mediterranean Restaurant Food & Service:

Now, let’s talk about the main event, the food.

Since DeRoka is a Turkish Mediterranean restaurant, we ordered Mediterranean dishes. DUH! For starters, we chose a plate of calamari. For the mains, my husband ordered the mixed grill, and I ordered pesto chicken pasta. For drinks, we selected DeRoka Delight and Bora Bora mocktails, and for dessert, baklava.

The servers first brought out a basket of flatbread pieces with a bowl of hummus. This complimentary starter instantly reminded me of my 2018 trip to Abu Dhabi, where I tried Middle Eastern & Mediterranean food for the first time. A good hummus always wins me over 😋 .

A multi-image collage of Mediterranean dishes and drinks served on a marble-patterned tabletop. The selection includes a basket of charred artisanal flatbread and a plate of golden-brown fried calamari rings served with a side salad and lemon wedge. Two vibrant, multi-layered fruit juices—one with a blue, green, and orange gradient and another with a red and orange ombré—are topped with fresh orange rose petals. Main courses feature a mixed grill with chicken and lamb skewers over flatbread with a side of white rice, and a bowl of creamy pesto chicken penne pasta with mushrooms. Dessert consists of four crispy, honey-glazed baklava rolls served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream in a red ceramic dish.

The lightly beer-battered calamari rings were deep-fried and served with classic tartar sauce. Each crunchy bite was warm and crisp, never chewy or rubbery!

Initially, we thought the mixed grill portion would be huge, but we later realized it included one piece each of lamb shish, chicken shish, and Adana kebab with spicy salsa sauce, served on flatbread with rice. Even so, every piece was cooked to perfection. Tender, juicy, beautifully grilled, and full of aromatic flavor. We’re currently on a diet, so we tried to control ourselves. Otherwise, we might have ordered another plate or even a Lamb Tagine. Although it was my husband’s dish, I still claimed about 30 percent of it 😜 .

For my entrée, I ordered my favorite pesto chicken pasta and I’m happy to say it didn’t disappoint. The rich, creamy penne pasta was cooked with tender chicken, mushrooms, and fragrant pesto sauce. It was rich without being heavy, and the portion size was sufficient for one adult.

Although I ordered the virgin DeRoka Delight mocktail, its taste didn’t quite impress me. So I swapped it with my husband’s Bora Bora. DeRoka Delight is made with mango puree, pineapple juice, pineapple puree, and blue curaçao. The Bora Bora contains pineapple juice, passion fruit juice, lemon juice, and grenadine, which made it more refreshing and zesty. That said, I have to give them a perfect score for presentation. The drinks were decorative, colorful, and absolutely stunning!

We ended our dinner with the Mediterranean staple, baklava 🤤 . They served four syrup-soaked rolls layered with filo pastry and chopped pistachios, paired with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. It tasted divine! The flavor and aroma lingered pleasantly for quite a while. I’ve honestly never had baklava that tasted this good. The intense sweetness was perfectly balanced by the mild vanilla ice cream, which finally made me understand why it’s served that way. I could only manage one roll, though.

If you’ve followed me for a while, you already know I don’t have much of a sweet tooth. I was slightly worried about having such a rich dessert at night. I also didn’t expect four large pieces! When we lived in Acton, London, there was a Baghdadi store near our apartment where my husband would buy baklava and other Turkish sweets every weekend. I’d usually eat only one or two smaller pieces. Those were less sweet compared to DeRoka’s rolls.

The service at De Roka is truly top-tier and matched the vibrant energy of the atmosphere. The staff were attentive and efficient, ensuring everything flowed seamlessly without ever feeling intrusive. Our neighbors had already shared their positive experiences, and I’m glad the team delivered the same high standard of hospitality. Every detail, from the effortless coat check to the precise timing of each course, was handled meticulously.

We also appreciated the personal conversation with the on-site manager, which rounded out the experience beautifully. We’re already planning a return visit to explore more of their signature grilled dishes 😍.

EE RATING:

DECOR: 5/5

FOOD: 4/5

SERVICE:5/5

Conclusion:

Overall, DeRoka is a space where modern city glamour meets authentic Mediterranean soul, offering a curated blend of flame-grilled classics and vibrant, neon-lit luxury. It’s the kind of place you never want to leave. If you’re in or around Milton Keynes, this Turkish restaurant is definitely worth a visit.
